Why Choose A Secular Science Curriculum?

There are many reasons why you might choose a secular homeschool science curriculum. Maybe you want your child to learn about science without any religious influence. Or, maybe you’re looking for a curriculum that is geared towards critical thinking and scientific exploration. Whatever your reasons, there are some great curriculums out there that can meet your needs.

Personally, I like choosing religious curriculums that focus on God’s Creation, such as Apologia’s science curriculums. But, there are times when I want a curriculum to just spit out an answer scientifically. For those times, I have found some great secular science curriculum.

Not that there’s anything wrong with studying God’s Word and knowing that the Universe was created by Him. I think it’s great to encompass all things with God. But, what if some religious textbooks are along the religious lines that you don’t agree with? I mean, as a Christian, I don’t believe in some things that other branches of Christianity believe in.

I believe in music and dancing, whereas some branches don’t. See what I mean? I also don’t believe in reincarnation or evolution.

According to Genesis 1:1: - 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

I steer clear of homeschool science curriculum secular that boasts about evolution, just as much as I steer clear of anything that goes against God’s Word. So if that’s something you’re looking for on this, I’m afraid to tell ya, you won’t find it here in this list.

In fact, any science curriculum that discusses the creation, such as astronomy, I prefer Apologia’s Exploring Creating with Astronomy because it walks through the planets and creation with biblical scripture. Our belief.

But if you’re looking for a secular science curriculum that just spits uncomplicated scientific facts, science experiments and scientific methods, awesome living books in a Charlotte Mason style, or even an unschooling type of approach to learning, or some other awesome way that’s straightforward yet engaging, then you’ll like this list of homeschool science curriculum (secular)!

    Favorite Homeschool Science Curriculum

Here are some science curriculum that you may want to take a look at for your kiddo! Some of these I’ve used and then some I’ve heard of. I guess I can’t guarantee that these won’t have evolution or big bang theories, but from what I’ve gathered, they don’t. Anything that goes against the Bible is not worthy of my doll-ah bills! But there’s still some great info out there that isn’t labeled as “religious.”

    Sassafras Science Adventures

The Sassafras Science Adventures from Elemental Science is a great way to start your elementary student in learning about science! Plus, it’s a great homeschool science curriculum for all ages and happens to be my #1 favorite scientific-y curriculum!

There are different levels available, so it can grow with your child. The best part is that it’s affordable and you can use it over and over again with all of your children.

Sassafras Science Adventures offers a variety of options for those looking to get their scientific fix for any concept you want to cover with your kids. From zoology to exploring the depths of the ocean to the inner workings of the human body, Sassafras Adventures has something for everyone.

And best of all, this Sassafras curriculum is committed to making their scientific lessons super fun and accessible for everyone. So whether you’re a scientific enthusiast or a scientific skeptic, Sassafras Adventures is sure to have something for you.

With four potential components to choose from, Sassafras Adventures is the perfect way to spice up your scientific lessons! The Official Sassafras SCIDAT Logbook is a great way to keep track of your progress, and the lapbooking guide provides instructions and templates for creating a lapbook.

I like how they use a huge, long story of kids going on all these adventures as a way to teach these scientific lessons. I feel like that would be so much more interesting than just reading out of a textbook.

The “Sassafras” series follows the adventures of twin brothers Blaine and Tracey. Each course’s Sassafras books are at its heart, giving a fascinating story that is ideal for young readers. I’ve only read the first book in the series, but it’s quite well-written and can stand alone.

You can start with the first book, like us, which is the Zoology: Volume 1 book. In this first book, the twins set off on worldwide adventures where they learn about animals and their habitats. Other books in the series continue with the twins’ adventures, adding new and exciting elements to keep readers engaged. Sassafras Science Adventures is a great way to introduce young readers to the exciting world of animals, plants, human body, and much more!

    Science Shepherd

I have used Science Shepherd for my own kids and I absolutely loved it! They offer a Christian homeschool science curriculum, but they also offer a secular version as well. The secular version is called the “Inquiry Approach.” It doesn’t teach creationism, but it does teach science from a Biblical perspective, which is PERFECT.

Science Shepherd has a lot to offer aspiring scientific-aspiring students. They have a variety of course offerings, including online and in-person options. They also have a number of resources available to help students succeed in their studies.

From biology to physics, this program covers it all. And it’s not just a dry textbook either. The lessons are engaging and interesting, making learning truly enjoyable.

    R.E.A.L Science Odyssey

Are you looking for an exciting and creative homeschool science curriculum? Look no further than R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey by Pandia Press! This unique program is perfect for kids of all ages and provides a stimulating learning experience that will keep them engaged and excited about their scientific lessons.

This curriculum was AMAZING. The levels correspond with each child’s grade too (they have different levels for different grade ranges).

I loved how this program is so easy to follow. The lessons are short, but they are jam-packed with information and activities. The activities were all things that we had around the house which was a huge plus for me!

R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey is great for homeschool kids! It’s a fun way to learn about scientific things, and it’s perfect for kids who want to get ahead in their studies.

    Pandia Press

If you’re looking for an engaging and interesting curriculum, this is definitely the one for you. Your kids will love learning about all sorts of different scientific topics, and you’ll be sure to enjoy watching them progress in their scientific understanding.

    Abeka

Abeka is a Christian homeschool curriculum company that many public schools use, but they have a homeschool curriculum. And their science books are secular. I’ve used Abeka’s science books off and on over the years. I like their health books and I’m currently using them now with my kids.

Even though they have a lot of great information, they can be pretty dry to read. My kids have always done well with them, but they are not my favorite. I have to incorporate a lot of hands-on activities and resources I find online to help establish the concepts more. And media. Lots and lots of videos.

Science: Matter and Energy - Abeka 9th Grade 9 Highschool Science Student Text Book

I have used their books for both elementary and middle school. I would definitely recommend them if you are looking for a more textbook approach to learning. They aren’t bad. I do like their information. But I’m just not a fan of textbook style so much. I mean, I do like textbooks. But not ONLY textbooks.

Science is all about hands-on and experimenting, I think. Abeka’s a pretty straightforward secular homeschool science curriculum. Which is what I said you would be able to find on this list, right?!!

Best Homeschool Science Curriculum (Secular/Faith-Neutral) With A Christian Perspective

If you’re looking for a secular homeschool curriculum for your science lessons that will challenge and engage your children, these three are worth checking out. Like I said earlier, I’m a Christian and I think it’s important to study science including God. God created it all. But, like I also said, there are some great secular options available, too, that don’t go against God’s Word! Personally, I prefer my science curriculums to include God for the most part, but if it comes down to picking the best secular science curriculums, these are the winners. I hope you’re enlightened!
