When it comes to finding the best Bible for teenager kiddos, for me, the options do NOT feel endless, but instead, they feel extremely limited. However, once you narrow down the bible translation you want your teen to have, you can decide what other features you might like this teen Bible to possess.
For instance, what is the purpose for? Are you wanting to pull it out to study with, like deep dive studying? Or, do you want them to grow with the Bible (so more evergreen)? From this aspect, it could then feel slightly endless because there’s truly a Bible version and feature for every stage of your teen’s faith journey. And with so many translation to boot—New International Version, New King James Version, English Standard Version—how do you know which is the perfect Bible for your teen guy or girl?
Listen when I tell you: I have done so much research for the very purpose of wanting a Bible for my teenage boy and my teenage girl to be able to use and study with – not just *with* me but ideally for themselves in their own Bible study time. And I want them to be able to truly understand and comprehend to the best of their ability what the Bible is really saying in context because they’re at that age now where things click a bit clearer for them where things align and come together for them, in a big picture epiphany.
They can take all those Bible stories they’ve heard all along and now read them for themselves in a way that they can truly see the impact each one has had in ‘HIStory’ and understand the deeper meaning of why…why did that happen at that point in time…why things needed to line up for God to bring forth His ultimate plan.
After much much much much MUCH research and consideration, I’ve narrowed down what I preferred they have as a teen and I added answers to the most asked questions you might be having when looking for the best teen bibles.

How To Narrow Down The Best Bibles For Teens
Let’s face it—when you’re picking out the best bible for teenager gal or boy, it feels a little like picking out their first car. It needs to be reliable (God’s Word, obvs), come with useful features like study notes or book introductions, and ideally, not get tossed into the back of a closet next to their forgotten hobbies of past times.
Regardless of which translation you get, whether you’re choosing a New American Standard Bible, New International Reader’s Version, or a New Living Translation, what’s most important is finding a Bible that resonates with them in their various phases of life or even their specific stage of life (preference is yours) – especially when “I know, Mom” is the battle cry of every teenager.
For your fashion-forward mom of teen girls, the Teen Study Bible (in a stylish ‘teen girls pink’) offers a great option for those interested in both biblical studies and a pop of color.
Meanwhile, teen guys might lean towards something more rugged like a youth edition of the New Revised Standard Version, the New English Translation, or the bold NIV Bible.
Of course, if your teen prefers the feel of paper, Nelson Place and HarperCollins Christian Publishing have great options.

So let’s narrow down the bibles to find a really good bible for teens! To do just that, here are 10 common questions answered about finding the best Bible for teenager gals and guys:
1. What’s the best Bible version for teenagers?
The best Bible version depends on the teen’s reading level and preference. Like, do they like the helpful commentary or study notes at the bottom? If so, they would probably like a teen study bible more than a traditional one. Or do YOU want them to have these notes or topical articles within the bible? Again, a teen study bible might be just that. If deep diving is your ultimate goal or what you guys are about to get ready to do, then study Bibles are it. But if you want an average everyday bible, then let’s see what else is on the menu!
Popular options for easier comprehension in understand the context of the Bible, translations include the New International Version (NIV), New Living Translation (NLT), and the English Standard Version (ESV). These versions are known for being easy to understand while maintaining the integrity of God’s Word.
In fact, I, myself, purchased my girl teen and my boy teen each a Tyndale Study Bible NLT translation primarily for the fact that it is easier for them to digest the meaning and the context.And also, I wanted us to study the Bible together with the same translation for easier discussions and referencing.
Because, to me, when you’re just beginning to study the Bible, fancy words aren’t hardly as helpful as words that you can really understand. Therefore, the KJV or the NKJV wasn’t on my list of possibilities at this point. I might get them a NKJV Bible later in life but, for right now, my ultimate goal is for them to start reading the Bible in order to understand the Bible.
If you want your daughter or son to have a Bible with traditional context, by all means, get the NKJV translation. Several moms and dads believe in only the New King James Version as the closest to the literal translation and if that’s you, that’s fine.
Whatever best fits with your family – get that translation.
But if you aren’t as concerned with traditional word-for-word context, or literal translations, and you just want a Bible that is easy to understand and good for your teen to read and actually use, there are many other translations out there that can meet your needs, like the New International Version (NIV), New Living Translation (NLT) or English Standard Version (ESV).
It’s important to consider what you’re looking for in a Bible translation before making a decision. Are you primarily interested in accuracy and staying true to the original text? Or do you value readability and a modern language approach? Maybe you’re looking for a balance of both.
2. Should I choose a Study Bible for my teenager?
A teen study Bible can be a great option for young teens or for young people who want to go deeper in their biblical studies. If he or she have been asking clarifying questions or have shared an eagerness to learn more, definitely go with the study Bible.
Also, if your homeschool Bible lessons are ones where you do want to have discussions about with your teen, and perhaps even study together, then you may opt for a study Bible.
The best teen study Bible will have scripture thats easy to read and understand as wel as helpful notes and sections throughout to think further about the context. A plus would be that it also could include devotionals that help teenagers apply God’s Word to their daily lives.

On another note, most study bibles will tell you it’s a Study Bible in its title. For instance, you’ll find ‘study bible’ in the name is it’s a study bible. Personally, I wanted an easy-to-understand Bible for my teens so we can not just discuss the context but so they could also go deeper with it. They need to be exposed to multiple perspectives and commentaries so they can understand, truly.
I simply wanted to study the Bible together with my teens and, if I’m being honest with myself, I wanted to walk past their rooms and witness them reading or studying the Bible all on their own. If they have more context and more information that’s EASY to read and understand what they are studying, it will hit home with them a lot more.

Your primary goal for getting her a Bible matters here, but if your goal is to get her something that’s easy to read and comprehend the context, get her a bible with NLT or NIV translations. If you want to study the bible with her, like a family bible study or for homeschool bible lessons, lean towards a bible wtih more notes and topical studies within or a study bible, especially if you don’t mind getting something other than traditional NKJV.

I really like easy-to-read books for kids and teens, so you won’t find me recommending literal translations here, although I’m sure there are quite a few NKJV bibles for tees out there. However, I’m sticking to more of dynamic equivalence because I really want them to understand it at this age, to be able to read it on their own and be like, “Hey, I get that.”
