Fun Ways To Learn Bible Verses To Teach Children
It’s important to take a short verse and explain it to your child in a way that they can relate to their daily lives. It helps them see the use of Scripture as well as seeing God’s word alive today. Take an encouraging bible verse, for example, and go over it with your child in fun, colorful letters or worksheets or even games and activities. Don’t make learning these short and simple bible verses dull – no one wants to learn anything when it’s dry and boring.
Instead, make learning the bible fun in a way that your kids are eager for bible lessons!
Actually, to teach easy bible verses for kids, ther’es one bible curriculum I found that makes kids literally eager to do is Grapevine Bible Studies. They use the method of “stick figure drawing” – a powerful way for kids to learn the bible and scripture memory in a hands-on, engaged way!
You can start using Grapevine Studies at a young age and continue it on through the teenage years and well into adulthood! They have resources for all ages, from preschool to adults. It’s the only bible curriculum I’ve found that was unique and effective when it came to my kids putting their understand of what they’re learning down on paper.
And we all know, when you write our your notes or repeat what you’ve just learned, it sticks in the brain so much better! The retention rate of drawing your understand is 29% more effective than traditional bible study methods. And it’s such a simple way to learn different topics presented in the bible, making scripture fun and come alive for kids!

How to Memorize Easy Bible Verses For Kids
Now you need to teach these easy to read bible verses for kids. Again, don’t be droll or dull. I suggest, as Christian parents, getting your young kids to start off with bibles specifically designed for kids. Usually, these bibles speak much like the New Living Translation (NLT) (but likely the International Children’s Bible translation (ICB)) in which they really break down great bible verses to teach children.
These kinds of bibles are also accompanied by beautiful pictures, helping kids relate the bible to their own life today. I can’t lie: I’m a beauty snob myself. I love beautiful pictures in bibles, even kids’ bible curriculums!
Here are a few different activities your kids can do to learn these simple bible verses and keep them in their hearts. Several of these activities I have done with my own kids – and they work!
Use a Bible Memory Verse Journal
One way is to use a memory book to help kids. You can use this bible memory verse journal when teaching scripture as an activity in your Morning Time lessons or bible lessons.
Stick Figure Drawing the Bible
As mentioned earlier about Grapevine Studies, kids learn through the Old Testament or the New Testament while applying what they learn by “stick figure drawing.”
But you don’t have to use Grapevine Bible curriculum to teach the stick figure drawing method. You can simply go through the bible and have them draw what they learning.
Read the Bible Regularly
What I really love for bible reading is The Child’s Bible Story by Catherine Vos. It puts the whole bible in one long story book. The author worked on it for years and year and, once she died, her daughter picked up the task and finally completed it.
I really like it. I haven’t found any discrepancies in it, which is something to look out for no matter what you get that’s bible-related.
Build A Verse
Write each word from a verse on its own index card. You can make them colorful index cars or even get beautifully created blank cards to write on. Then have the kids practice their bible verses by literally building the verse out, word by word.
Memory Verse Jigsaw
Write the verse on a piece of paper, then cut it into puzzle pieces. Kids can put the puzzle together to learn the verse. I created a few for you that you can download here so you can get the idea of even how you can do it at home by hand!

Musical Memory
Set the verse to a simple tune or chant. Singing helps with memorization, and kids can create their own rhythms or melodies to make it even more fun.
For instance, say Psalm 23 in the tune of Mary Had A Little Lamb:
“The Lord is My Shepherd, My Shepherd, My Shepherd. The Lord is My Shepherd, I shall not want.”
[Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb. Mary had a little lamb, it’s fleece was white as snow.]
Verse of the Day
Start each day with a different verse from the list. Write it on a board or a large piece of paper, and say it together in different voices — whispering, shouting, singing.
You can rotate the verses in 3-4 “verse cycles” like on a loop schedule. By the time they come back around to the Verse of the Day for a third time in the loop, they should be very familiar with it by then!
Bible Verse Hopscotch
Create a hopscotch board with each square representing a word in the verse. As kids jump through, they say the words out loud. Got chalk?
Crafting the Verse:
Have kids create a craft, like a decorated picture frame, with the verse written in the center. This can serve as a visual reminder in their room. You can make crafts out of toilet paper rolls or a cut-and-paste craft activity.

White Crayon Test
When trying to memorize verses, to test their memory, one idea is writing the verse in white crayon and then having your kids color over each word to see if they have it correct.
Daily Routine Reinforcement
Incorporate the verse into daily routines, like saying it before meals, during bedtime prayers, or in the car. Repetition throughout the day can make memorization more effective.
These activities, along with the list of verses, should make scripture memorization both fun and meaningful for young children, providing them with a strong spiritual foundation.
