Science class is a favorite subject in many homeschool families because you get to dive deep in some of the most interesting topics about the world around you. About NatureGlo eScience
One of the perks of being part of the Homeschool Review Crew is that sometimes we get access to products and curricula that isn’t yet available to the public. One of these times is now when we received exclusive access to NatureGlo’s eScience and all the science courses included.
NatureGlo’s eScience contains 25 science course across several different topics, mostly related to living creatures (i.e. insects, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, etc.) but there are a number of courses that also include other interesting topics that aren’t about living things, such as Bubbleology (the science behind bubbles!) and Exploring the Giant Red Wood Trees.

How We Used NatureGlo eScience in our Homeschool
We checked out one of the mini courses so we can go through it on a consistent basic and finish it in order for review time! So we decided to check out Invertebrates: Insects of the World.
The first lesson gives you an option to download your study guide and the slideshow lessons, however, most lessons you have video lessons taught by Gloria regarding the subject matter.
We found the course to be very well paced and it’s clear that Gloria is extremely knowledgable in her science topics! She knew so much about these invertebrates insects. Her teaching style is very matter-of-fact and to the point, and she very clearly walks the students along throughout each lesson.
We went through all seven lessons inside Insects of the World and every single one was rich in information about this subject. Whether she’s giving a slideshow or directing you to an external website, she goes over all the information and genuinely teaches you about the course subject matter.
The very popular DK Find Out (which is a site we often use in our homeschool very nearly every subject) is utilized in this class as well. In the Insects of the World course, Gloria went through the video lesson on the site with us and explained different parts of the insects. It was extremely informative and enriching! The kids loved it and kept saying “wow” and “awesome” and “that’s so cool”.
Other lessons included in this course were various stories and poems about insects. We enjoyed reading these! These aren’t your average, everyday stories and poems either – they really do talk about the subject matter! For instance, provided in the course, we read through and thoroughly enjoyed Knowing Insects Through Stories by Floyd Bralliar. We also really liked this poem: History/Literature Connection: Poem – The Butterfly’s Ball and the Grasshopper’s Feast by William Roscoe.
Other Notable Courses
Although Invertebrates: Insects of the World is an amazing course, especially for my elementary aged children, we also looked through a few other courses as well to see what those were about.
Bubbleology is one of the courses we found interesting. It includes downloadable files, activities, study guide, projects, and video lessons. The course takes a closer look at bubbles! Like, soap bubbles. It helps kids put their imagination about bubbles into action, and explains different viewpoints of bubbles.
Herps Explorers: Frogs, Geckos, and Chameleons was another interesting class. This class is one of many Herps Explorers courses inside the Nature eScience MathArt & Science Course Bundle. This one talked about Frogs, Geckos, and Chameleons and a few other creatures. It includes quizzes, video lessons, and downloadable guides. It talks about a wide range of things, including the different parts of a frog, how it jumps, and even studies the songs of frogs and toads!
Intro to Rockhounding peaked my own personal interest since I’ve never even heard of rockhounding. It includes the different formations of rocks, rock equipments, and about digging up and studying these rocks you dig up. It discusses geodes and collecting gems. Taken from lesson 1, Gloria starts out the course saying:
Can you relate to the image? Have you actually begged your parents to stop the car to look at some rock, rocks or rock formation? As an adult, I have seen rocks and rock formations, and yes, I have stopped the car to go and look at them. One afternoon, when I was living in West Virginia, while I was driving by a huge rock cut out, I just had to stop the car and look. It was such a clean cut the highway builders had made and there were a lot of pretty rocks to look upon once I got close up to look at the rock cutaway.
Of course, there are plenty more courses to discuss, but these three captured my interest and now you see why!
Our Opinion of NaturerGlo eScience
The only thing I didn’t like was that every time you click the Home button, it directs you to a page to sign up to her email list in order to get a free unit study planner template. I already have one I use that I created myself, so I didn’t want it, but unfortunately there’s no way to move away from that screen or click “no”. And if you do click the only button available on the screen, when it goes to the Home page it immediately auto-directs you right back to that sign up page.
It was quite irritating. So I had to find my bookmark of the NatureGlo login screen and start from there. It could be set up differently, in my opinion, instead of forcing students/members to sign up through the email form.
Other than that, the courses were great. We enjoyed all the different types of animals and the different subjects across the board. We recommend this science curriculum for families with kids of all ages.
Although not all of its science courses are available for high school credit, I did find that most of the science courses were a tad bit advanced for my elementary aged kids. I would recommend a family with middle schoolers and up to obtain this science curriculum. But all in all, after I explained the lessons the kids went through, it was an interesting curriculum.
