Board games are a great way for kids to have fun while learning. Printable games that include math lessons can help children learn about different types of math and how to use them in everyday life.
These kinds of games are perfect for all ages and can be played with friends or family. You can get started with this addition and subtraction game board below, which is perfect for third grade or even fourth grade (or even second grade!), along with a BLANK board game template, so you can make your own board game.

Ideas to make your own fun board game:
There are different ways to use printable games and apply it to your homeschool.
First, think about what your kids are learning about in homeschool. Their math concepts, history, science, writing, grammar, reading comprehension…and so on.
Next, think about all the fun games or family games that you’re familiar with that you play with your kids. Whether it be printable games or board games you purchase at the local Wally World. Think about how they go about their game and how they determine the winner or the end result.
From this brainstorming session alone, you can probably come up with quite a few games all on your own!
Then, you can take what you thought about – the concepts your kids are learning and the games – and turn it into your own game!
You can make your board game from the blank printable game templates I have provided for you in the free download in this blog post. Or, and here’s another idea, you can even just use the boards themselves from the ones you bought from the store and from the ones you may have just lying around collecting dust!
Use sticky notes or write on the game spots with dry-erase markers.
And thus, you have your printable math board games!
Here’s a simple way to set up a board game. It’s missing the “meat” but this is an overview (without the concepts – you can add those!):
Each player needs a game piece, which can be anything you want as long as it is different from all of the other players’ pieces.
Players take turns rolling two dice and moving their game piece that number of spaces on the board. If they roll a number that is already occupied, they must wait for their next turn to move.
If a player lands on a square with an instruction, they must follow it. The first player to reach the finish win!
This is a simple enough activity, right? All you have to do is decide what to put in those squares that’s math-related.
Tip: Make it something they’re learning right now!

- Sum Swamp-Race through the Sum Swamp while adding and subtracting.
- Monopoly Junior – Learn how to save money by playing this classic game!
- Math Dice Jr. – Roll dice and try to get as many points as possible in a minute with your friends or family members.
- Number Grid – Draw lines between numbers that are consecutive and/or add up to a certain number.
- Super Sums – Addition game for kids with three levels of difficulty.
- Tic Tac Toe Multiplication Edition – Older students can practice multiplication skills by playing this classic game.
- The 24 Game Jr.-Practice multiplication and division skills with this game that gets more difficult as players progress.
Educational Printable Board Game Ideas
You can also make your own educational board activities for kids! Print out the game boards and game pieces on cardstock, then cut them out. Laminate the game boards for durability.
